So two cats have been coming consistently to our doorstep the last few days. I'm thinking this might have something to do with the fact that we let them in the house and fed them and petted them a lot last week.
We have many feral cats in our neighborhood. These two looked like former housecats and like they would get their lunch money stolen from the other cats. So we wanted to take them in and make sure they found a new home. Well...we were not successful in finding them a new home. So we're going to "keep" them - but only as outdoor cats. Basically we'll let them in every once in a while when we feel like petting them. And we'll make sure they get spayed.
But this is all just to say that we've been really wanting a dog lately.
We're thinking about a Basset Hound. Sweet, cute and the right size for our house, car and yard. Any opinions?
If we decide to be crazy and get a big dog, we're thinking about a Newfoundland. We love big, gentle dogs. Especially ones that look like bears.

Oh well you KNOW I have a comment about this. YES GET A DOG. They are wonderful, loving, and any inconvenience they cause is not a big deal because you love them. Matt would be thrilled if you got a basset hound. He LOVES them. Note on big dogs: they are generally more maitenance and more mess, so if you do go for a big dog, I'd research grooming stuff so you know what you're getting into. But yes, that would be so wonderful!!!! And WAY better than a cat!! :)
You should seriously check into Boston Terriers - they are the perfect family dog!! =)
I'm just saying...
well, you know what we like: ) but you kinda gotta rob a bank or receive on e as a gift....so i guess bulldogs are out of the question: ) but they are the perfect family dog! how exciting though! hope you find something you love. heather, i don't know what your trouble is with cats, i had three and they were SO loving, gentle, caring, and loyal. i guess it all depends on the cat and the owner: ) good luck and look forward to hearing what you get!!
No knocking the cats! They are great, low maintence pets!
However, dogs are also lovely and some day I might just take the leap to being a dog owner....
I know nothing about basset hounds except they are cute! Isn't that enough in deciding? :)
