Pounded

Southern tradition holds that when a new preacher comes to town everybody brings one pound of something as a gift. As we border Kentucky, and John (our head pastor) hails from Virginia, our church decided to “pound” us. They filled over six boxes with all kinds of things. Here is a picture of Dan with all the pounds of things and a little list of some pounding highlights:

a pound of yarn the giver offered to knit into a prayer shawl
four pound cakes
a hammer to pound with
Charmin (three packages worth) and paper towels and kleenex
canned peaches
butterscotch things: people here love the flavor! We received candy and pudding
jam/preserves
soup, brownie, bread, and cake mixes of all kinds
marshmallow fluff in a small plastic bucket
a Frisbee for Dan and an oil paint tube for Krista
sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, rice
tons of pasta and pasta sauce
m&ms, chocolates, dark chocolates
crackers & granola & peanuts & almonds
two loaves of bread
three large zucchini and three onions
lots of coffee! Starbucks, decalf, lite coffee
a picture frame and candle
gift cards for Kroger, Panera, and Bob Evans
detergent, toilet bowl cleaner
a complete set of towels for two
and an ENTIRE cooler full of beef!! Oh and a pound of pennies.

That is so great! We had something like that at our church...we ended up with 10 cans of tuna (which we don't eat) and about 20 boxes of jello mix. Isn't it nice to have people care for you and that are excited to have you at the church!?!
